Simply Me Supported the FITE Charity Through a Beauty Evening
Simply Me, a local Southampton business, which provides high quality, spa standard beauty treatments and products to it clients, has hosted a beauty pamper evening specifically to make a change to women’s businesses in developing countries. Simply Me teamed up with Dermalogica, a skincare supplier, to support the charity FITE (Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship). In a direct response from the beauty evening owner of Simply Me, Sophie Sexton has managed to raise over £200 and continues to support the charity through sales from Dermalogica products that the salon stocks.
FITE is a new global platform to help women entrepreneurs around the world in developing countries start or grow a business through microloans. Recipients of the loans apply for it to help increase stock or create capital to set up their business to give them the chance to be independent and create a living for themselves. Simply Me supports FITE, not only through events but also through the purchase of Dermalogica products bought from the salon, each packet provides a code, which when entered into the FITE website donates $1 to the charity.
Sophie Sexton comments, “I felt that by choosing Dermalogica as a supplier to my salon I not only provide the highest quality skincare products to my clients, but I also help give something back to society. I think it is important that no matter how large or small your business, you support and give to those who are in need. Hence my decision to go one step further and host a luxury beauty evening to raise even more.”
The Simply Me Charity Event was hosted at The White Horse Hotel in Romsey on Wednesday 19th October, and had a sell-out success with 37 people buying tickets for the exclusive evening. Simply Me provided various activities for attendees consisting of:
- A Skin Analysis by a Dermalogica Skin Expert
- A Facial Tutorial using Dermalogica products
- A make-up Tutorial with Mii Cosmetics
- A makeover with Mii Cosmetics
- The chance to win a trip to New York and visit Dermalogica’s HQ for treatments
- The opportunity to win other great skin care prizes thanks to Simply Me’s raffle
- Canapés and drinks
- The chance to purchase Dermalogica and Mii products, a percentage of which is donated to FITE.
Joanne Alan, a Simply Me client who attended commented on the evening, “I really enjoyed this evening, not only did I benefit from amazing treatments and beauty products, but I know that we are raising money to help entrepreneurs in developing countries. I am impressed by how much a difference just one salon can make to someone’s life in a developing country that does not have the same opportunities that we do.”

Meet our FITE entrepreneur...
We thought you'd like to know that FITE has processed the codes we redeemed at joinFITE.org, and helped fund a microloan segment for an entrepreneur matching are selections as closely as possible.
The entrepreneur funded is Enarcita Bacordo
This loan will be used for the purpose of: to pay for sacks of rice and grocery items as stock replenishment for her variety store. Being one of the persevering community partners in CCT*, Enarcita, 49, works hard to make her business flourish. She was not able to reach high school; nevertheless, she makes sure that sad fact will not get in the way of a great future for her and her family. Enarcita is married to Francisco, a tricycle driver. Together they persevere to augment their family needs and reach their dreams. They have two children, one who works already, and one who studies in college. Their family used to live in Negros Oriental; at present, they reside in Tondo, Manila. Enarcita manages her own sari-sari (variety) store. Here, she sells daily household essentials like cooking oil, toiletries, and beverages in retail prices. She also sells rice in retail, which works well since rice is the staple food of Filipinos. Her store being located adjacent to their home, Enarcita is able to invest her complete day time in this business and gets to earn Php1, 700 net income daily. She manages her store without the aid of any employees. To help her continue operation of her business, she is requesting a Php50,000 loan. Enarcita intends to use this loan to restock grocery items in her store, such as soft drinks, milk in boxes, instant noodles, and toiletries, among others. She also plans to purchase sacks of rice for her rice retail business. Aside from supporting her business capital, this will also lead the way to increase savings to pay for franchise of her newly bought van. One struggle Enarcita has at present is the low rate of sales. But she continuously devises strategies to get the community to patronize her store, because her dream of seeing her business grow fuels her perseverance to work hard. It is her desire to purchase their own lot and build their own home. As a CCT community partner, she faithfully attends the group's weekly fellowship* meeting where she can also draw strength and inspiration from the Word of God she studies. *All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and pay microfinance loans.

Katie Piper the extraordinary woman behind ‘Katie: My Beautiful Face’ and the Katie Piper Foundation is an inspiration to us all. She has rebuilt her life after suffering a brutal acid attack and now campaigns through her foundation to improve rehabilitation facilities for burns victims, while also providing a network of support and information on burns, scars and treatment.
When Karen Betts (Managing Director and head trainer for Nouveau Contour) heard about Katie’s story and the amazing work she was doing to help other victims of burns and facial disfigurement she immediately knew she wanted to be involved in some way.
Karen is renowned as one of the top permanent cosmetics artists and gives up a lot of her time and expertise to helping people coping with the after-effects of chemotherapy, as well as alopecia sufferers. When Katie met Karen and saw what she could do, from cosmetic permanent makeup on eyebrows and lips right through to medical tattooing to camouflage scars and disfigurements, she decided to have a lip blush procedure done there and then.
Katie said of her treatment with Karen:
“Thank you so much for giving up your time to help me. I can’t tell you how much of a difference the permanent makeup makes to my life. Thank you for caring and being such a lovely person!”

Bridal outing!
Sophie is only spending half the day at the salon today, to then go out to Romsey to help a lovely bride and her mother get ready for her perfect day! After a makeup trial we found the perfect look. Sophie loves applying wedding makeup and making the bride feel her best! Can't wait to see the full look, hair, makeup and not to forget the dress!

The new 'Little Suckers' Pedicure
Launching this week the all new 'Little Suckers' pedicure.
Previously, fish were best enjoyed in a bowl as pets, behind glass at an aquarium, or on a plate at meal times. Appreciate fin-backed friends by dipping your toes into warm water, and allowing these toothless wonders to nibble away dead skin, leaving soles feeling softer and just a little bit ticklish. We enjoyed a fab day at the professional beauty show yesterday at London Excel, swotting up on all the latest in the beauty industry to bring back for you... ranging from fish pedicures to laser lipo, to microdermabrasion to callus peels, to boutique furniture to fresh new uniforms, new makeup ranges and seeing all the latest fashions for nails and tanning!

We are proud to be holding an Aromatherapy Workshop with our Guest Naturopath, Tania Sellwood.
As Monday 21st March is the first day of spring we felt it would be perfect to hold this fantastic workshop that enables you to produce your own creams, lotions, body oils, bath salts, body scrubs to each individuals requirements, giving you that inspiration and motivation, and putting a spring in your step!
Your day will include:
10am - 1pm
Rreshments, Meet Tania our guest Naturopath
Begin with history of Aromatherapy
The Safety utilised in Aromatherapy
And look at the therapeutic properties of a large range of essential oils
1pm Lunch
2pm - 5pm
A Hands on workshop, this is going to be an amazing chance for you to apply all you have learnt about essential oils and utilise them by making your own lotions, creams, bath salts, body scrubs to your own specific requirements and take them home with you.
Everyone who comes will learn a little about Aromatherapy and how to make best use of the Essential Oils in their own homes and we can assure you that you will go home smelling fantastic, being relaxed and rejuvenated.
